Rural Community Development
Community development aims to improve the health of community residents, visitors/tourists, and seasonal workers. Community stakeholders and volunteers’ partner with multidisciplinary teams to fulfil this goal. Nurses, the largest global healthcare discipline, are positioned to navigate the holistic landscapes of health that integrate the socio-political, cultural, sustainable, economic, and environmental aspects related to the uniqueness of rural communities; they require models to guide their practice. The Community Health Assessment Sustainable Education (CHASE) model is one such model that guides their practice as they focus on sustainability. Equally, CHASE can be engaged with all health disciplines and wider fields, such as environmentalists and planners.
Learning Objectives
There are six learning objectives in this educational module. After completing this, you will be able to:
Consider geographical isolation and its impact on rural communities.
Create community development project.
Engage with the CHASE model.
Apply evidence-based knowledge to implement best practice.
Facilitate the design process to improve health by co-designing health promotion initiatives with your community.
Evaluate the impact of the initiatives.
